These are FREE leather classes compliments of Rude Dog Leather.
Here's a tool we use in our shop every day. Using it, I am going to teach you how to make a 2 foot wide segment of 18 inch long fringe in just a few minutes.
We no longer sell this tool but I have left the instructions up for your reference.
Fringe and straps from 1/8" inch to several inches wide can be cut by changing the amount of spacers between each blade.
This method also works great for making leather thongs for lacing (cut apart at top after fringing to separate into single strands) and belts (set spacers 1 inch apart to cut several belts at one time.)
Pull the leather down onto the blades to pierce through the leather.
Starting to pull the first section.
Return to the starting point and pierce the next section.
The blades used are utility knife type blades. When one end gets dull, you simply flip it over and use the other end.
You can see the finished rows at the left side of photo.
Hand positions I use to ensure pulling evenly.
